Common Questions... (and their answers!) What's the maximum group size that can stay at the beach house? The beach house sleeps up to 4 adults. You can squeeze in one (small) child as well. How many bedrooms and bathrooms? 2 of each. Both are furnished with king-sized beds. Is the beach house air conditioned? Yes. Plus, there are plenty of ceiling fans. You'll be cool. What about heat? Central heat is provided. There's a fireplace too, although firewood's scarce. Are linens provided? Fresh, clean linens are provided. Just show up and be ready to relax. Can you swim on the property? The shoreline adjacent to Cedar Key Haven is not your traditional sandy beach; in fact, it is covered with tall grass. As is true of most of the island, there are also oyster beds along the shore which do not make it conducive to wading and swimming. There are two public beaches within about two miles of the house which do have sandy beaches that are good for swimming. Can we dock our boat on the property? Unfortunately, during low tide the water is too shallow to accommodate a boat. There is a public boat ramp within two miles of the house and there is plenty of room to park a trailer in the large, fenced yard, however. Exactly where is the beach house located? It's right beside the runway at the Cedar Key (George T. Lewis) airport. The runway's on one side, the Gulf of Mexico is on the other!
Isn't the airport noisy? No. If you never saw the runway, you might not even realize the beach house was located adjacent to an airport. Due to the airport's size (very small) and lack of facilities such as fuel, winged visitors are infrequent. Can we get supplies and groceries nearby? Yes. Convenience and grocery stores are within two miles of the beach house. How do we make reservations? Easy... just fill out the reservation form. You can also just email us at info@cedarkeyhaven.com or call 407-549-5717. If you email us directly please include, at a minimum, your group size and phone number. It's that simple! We reply to all inquiries within 24 hours - often you'll hear back from us minutes or hours after you contact us. We check our email and phone messages pretty frequently. Don't worry, we'll get right back to you - we promise! How early should we make reservations? Generally speaking, the earlier, the better. We are a simple 'first come, first served' operation. The summer months are most popular. If you are interested in a summer getaway to Cedar Key during these months, we highly recommend getting in touch with us as soon as possible. May we bring pets to the beach house? Yes, we allow certain pets. Inquire for details. Is this a smoke-free beach house? Yes, it is; however, you are welcome to smoke outside. Please refrain from dropping cigarette butts in the yard; we've provided receptacles on the porch to accomodate them. Is your kitchen fully stocked? Just bring food! Glass-top stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, food disposal, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and <pop!> corkscrew are all included. Washer? Dryer? Yes, and yes. How many beach houses are there? Just this one. To us it's a member of the family, so please treat it gently. We would like to travel to Cedar Key Haven by air. How can we do this? If you're a pilot you can check out our pilot information page which will tell you everything you need to know. The closest commercial airport service is Gainesville, Florida. Otherwise, consider flying in - you'll be able to taxi right up to Cedar Key Haven's front gate! We need directions to Cedar Key Haven! These are included in the Welcome Packet which is sent to you immediately after we receive your deposit. What is there to do in Cedar Key? Cedar Key and the "Nature Coast" are probably best known for hiking, kayaking, fishing, birdwatching, exploring, and enjoying a peaceful, but fun-filled vacation. Tampa's Busch Gardens theme park is a one hour and twenty minute drive to the south. Gainesville, the home of the Florida Gators, is northeast, about one hour away. Silver Springs in Ocala is a one hour drive. And there's plenty more to do! Where can we eat out? Lots and lots of places! We have our favorites, and you'll read more about them at the Beach House in our travel guide. We want to fish! Plenty of fishing around Cedar Key! Plus you can charter a deep-sea fishing excursion for very reasoable rates.
